Change Management - Transformational Leadership required
Addressing the members and guest invitees as well as the industry captains of the Madras Management Association (MMA) a 50 years old organisation, held on February 5th 2010 at Chennai at GRT convention centre T'Nagar , Mr Kishor Jagirdar Managing Director of Infopace Management Pvt Ltd strongly advocated the need of the hour for Transformational leadership that will steer India as a global leader in the next decade. Highlighting the current trend of the global markets with a detailed researched analysis of how the world markets are rapidly changing due to explosive demand for consumption and changing relationships of the corporation with the customers will eventually transpire into a volatile situation in the coming years for businesses. He pointed out that with shrinking life cycle of organizations from 12 years at the beginning of 2000 to just about 5 years in 2010 has made it very difficult for organizations to work with a business plan that has protracted growth models. This means any businesses now entering into the market will have to look at the visibility that is planned yearly and focus on quarterly results than aim at long ambitious plans. Its like the visibility for a driver of a car driving in the night can see only about 200 meters due to the headlights, though the vision is to travel at a great distance. This is imperative to survive the rapid changes that is engulfing almost every aspect of the industry due to global warming , global recession and changing customer preference in the face of multiple choices. <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />India requires transformational leaders now to enable the people to shift from the old business paradigm that we have seen in the last 100 years or so, to a new world order which is more based on principles of self reliance, sufficiency and resource conservation . India has many challenges to face including its disparity in energy demand Vs Supply, re-inventing the value systems of doing business with mapping people’s aspiration. The transformational leadership has to find newer ways to lead transformation that works and connect with the passion of people and lead them all into one single direction of transformation. The need of the hour is to build high trust culture and align people to the vision. This will reduce attrition and enhance the collective growth of the organization. The future organizations have to be a like a jeep - all terrain and rugged to deal with any change and still thrive. Disruptive innovations will be constantly changing the landscape of business as we have known in the 60 years and in the coming years, investment in certain industries will undergo complete change especially Telecom, Automobile and IT will be witnessing 100% depreciating and become absolute in the avatar as we see it today. This means businesses have to be constantly innovating to remain on the horizon with micro retaining abilities with customers and product life cycles.
The time has come for Indian leaderhip to re-define the way forward to place India as a true global leader and write the history of the 21st century. This event was well received by the members and inspired many in initiating change in their respective organizations. I
