So, a few weeks ago, my supervisor at the bank I've been consulting at in NYC walks up and says, "Hey, would you be willing to go to London for a week?" "Uh... sure." And after two weeks of frantic details, here I sit.
This is my first time outside the continental US. I've never been so far as Cancun or Toronto before... or even Hawaii. A month or so ago, on a random whim, I started reading up on the requirements for a passport, thinking I ought to go ahead and get one just in case I wanted to spontaneously run off with Lauren on vacation to some island paradise somewhere someday. Upon seeing that the wait time was 12-15 weeks, I tabled the notion, figuring that a few weeks' delay wouldn't make that much difference. Turns out, you can get one in 4 days if you're willing to fork over several hundred dollars to an expediting agency that will go hand-walk the application through the State Department for you.
I took this shot of the contents of my pockets after I came back in this evening. It's a 6-second exposure at 100 ISO, with the camera propped on a pillow and a white bedsheet as the background, with a bright white LED flashlight zoomed all around to wash out the background.
I've been here Saturday and Sunday and have several gigs of photos to go through already, but tomorrow I have to actually go to work instead of touristing about all day, so hopefully I can start catching up in the evenings. So stay tuned!
