Customers who rushed to a sale at Comet have expressed disappointment over the level of discount.

The electronics retailer had announced a "massive stock liquidation" ahead of store closures as early as next week, but angry shoppers took to Twitter to complain about the price reductions.

Scott Houston said: "Comet 'Firesale' is no more than 10-15% off. Prices aren't even competitive with online prices. Time wasted."

And Matt Arthur tweeted: "Anyone thinking of going to the Comet "liquidation sale", don’t bother. 10% off audiovisual, 20% off kitchen appliances, still cheaper online."

Ajay Deshpande added: "If you are looking for cheap electrical goods then don't go to the Comet 'sale'!"....Read more

6500 jobs at risk as Comet to go into administration

High street giant Comet was plunged into chaos on Thursday as its looming administration saw suppliers commandeer stock, its website crash and shoppers urged to spend store vouchers before they become worthless.

The company said a notice of intent to file for administration had been handed in at the high court with the formal appointment of administrators expected early next week. The financial crunch puts 6,500 jobs at risk and raises the spectre of one of the darkest days for the high street since the collapse of Woolworths in 2008. In an email sent to staff Comet chief executive Bob Darke told staff the board was "urgently working with its advisers to seek a solution to secure a viable future" for the loss-making chain.....Read more
