Comcast is set to buy NBC Universal in a deal that is expected to close on Thursday. There were rumors in late September that this may happen, but yesterday GE (who owns NBC) made a move to buy Vivendi's share of NBC for $5.8 million and this opened up the possibility of Comcast stepping in.

“The deal would make NBCU 51 percent owned by Comcast and 49 percent owned by GE.

Currently, GE owns 80 percent of NBCU, which the two companies have valued at about $30 billion.

The deal includes the spinoff of NBC Universal and $9 billion in debt. It also includes the merger of Comcast’s content assets and a $6 billion cash contribution.”

It is thought that the deal won't be officially announced until Thursday, but it it looking like the transaction is as good as done.

I'll take a look at The Phila. Inquirer this week...no doubt that this newspaper will be covering the story too. But thanks in advance for this news.
