Conficker Worm Hits University Of Utah Computers
The University of Utah found its network under attack by the Conficker Worm, which has been ratcheting up its activity lately.
Sharp-eyed administrators noticed that their network was slowing down, and found a Conficker C infection when they dug deeper.
Take control, netizen! Here's the eye chart testing tool and a link to the removal tool.
The Conficker worm has infected hundreds of personal computers at the University of Utah this week, the school's officials said.
The worm slows computers and steals personal information. It has so far infected mainly the university's three hospitals and its medical, nursing and pharmacy colleges.
Chris Nelson, health sciences spokesman, told the Salt Lake Tribune that patient data and medical records have not been compromised.
According to Symantec, Conficker.e is downloading and installing Waledac, a noted Trojan horse bot perhaps best known as the successor to the infamous Storm bot of 2008.
