In Ethiopia singers/musicians are crying for their talent products appropriated by illegal duplicators. Some of the singer/ musicians are even leaving their profession or persecuted to countries where copy right protection is legally addressed. It is true that the Ethiopian government is trying its best effort to enforce the copy right protection legislation but this has become beyond its capacity. Is enforcing copy right protection a worldwide problem especially with regard to digital media?

I think in underdeveloped countries like Africa this is a severe continental problem. Consumers do not hesitate to by copies of digital media as they get it cheaper. Governments cannot find out illegal duplicators that are emerging daily in multiple numbers. Meanwhile, the original producers entitled for copy right protection are suffering from the illegal duplicators and sellers of the products they originally produced.

Even copy right protected foreign digital products/media like music and software are multiplied in underdeveloped countries in the form of what they call ‘cracking’. Best example is cracking antivirus software! Which is responsible, technology itself or the rule of law? I think both should be responsible. Technology should develop digital security system disabling illegal copiers to copy others talent outputs. Copy right laws should also be effectively enforced by the executive organ of a nation! But is copy right protection a worldwide problem?
