Crashed Plane Found on Google Maps
Crashed Plane found on Google Map of Alameda, California
Google Maps brings up some amazing finds. One of them is a crashed airplane. The jet, broken in several pieces, can be seen by navigating to Alameda, California and finding the airstrip to the city's west.
What you're looking at is the Alameda Naval Air Station, a decommissioned airstrip and dock that hosts the USS Hornet, a museum ship. If you watch Mythbusters, you'll recognize Alameda Naval Air Station from some of their tests. Also, the airstrip was used for the freeway chase scene in The Matrix: Reloaded.
The crashed jet you're seeing in the Google Map is not a commercial airliner: at least, not an active one. The jet was destroyed for use in an episode of Trauma in 2009, according to Google Maps Mania.

Good story. When I lived in Alameda, we used to see the Mythbusters when they were first starting the show. They shared our craving for burritos at a local haunt.
There are some additional interesting stories about things you may discover around Alameda Island. I will write a story inspired by this post.
