CVS Pharmacy Computers Have Been Knocked Out Nationwide Due to Extensive Flooding in Rhode Island

There is a national computer system outage at CVS Pharmacy locations across the United States on Tuesday March 30th due to the flooding in Rhode Island. This computer outage will affect all prescription services in the 7,000 CVS locations.

CVS has their headquarters in Woonsocket Rhode Island and that location lost their power Tuesday afternoon due to the flooding problems at the local power stations according to The Providence Journal. It is hoped that the outage will be fixed by Tuesday evening.

How Will This Outage Affect You?

If you need a prescription from CVS you will be able to get your prescription filled, but any insurance claim will not be able to be processed.

For the most part, stores are able to fill prescriptions, but they are unable to process the insurance claims, said company Spokesman Michael J. DeAngelis.

Pharmacists are told to keep records of prescriptions filled so that insurance claims can be processed later. Phone lines may be down at some locations as well, so if you try to call you may not get through.

Flooding in Rhode Island is the Worst Flooding in Over a Century

Evacuations in Rhode Island are underway as some areas have been declared a 'major disaster'. A flood warning advisory has been issued for the Blackstone and Pawtuxet Rivers and it is being predicted that six to ten inches of rain will still fall across Rhode Island.
