The Daily Mail Group will cut 1,000 jobs as advertising revenues for traditional newspapers continue to fall.
This round of layoffs is double the expected amount, and affects the Northcliffe Media arm, including the Leicester Mercury, Hull Daily Mail and Bristol Evening Post.
The job cuts at its regional arm Northcliffe Media are more than double what it estimated last November, the media company said.
It said it had a "difficult quarter" so far and expects a "substantial fall" in profits in the first half of 2009.

Traditional media is taking a hit these days, but not because they couldn't see it coming. More likely, their troubles are due to an inability to adapt, a stubborn refusal to embrace the new reality that the internet offers, and gross managerial incompetence at the highest levels.
A pox on all their houses whether its the Daily Mail Groups, CanWest Media or the CTV conglomerate. If they were the least bit innovative, truly innovative, and genuinely cared about informing people, they'd not be in these dire circumstances now.
Hopefully they don't dare try to blame their current circumstances on the 'global economic crisis'. Not every problem in business today is a result of that!
