Twitter, Facebook and Google are among sites under constant distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks that took twitter offline for several hours on Thursday.
Twitter posted on their discussion forum, saying the DDos attack is ongoing and has not decreased in intensity. The DDos attacks, thought to be centered around a Georgian blogger, took down twitter for hours and also affected Google's Blogger and Livejournal.
"The DDoS attack is still ongoing, and the intensity has not decreased at all," wrote Chad Etzel, from Twitter's application development platform support team.

Very odd, I had recommended this piece earlier with a comment and it has disappeared.
Twitter still has quite a bit of glitches and bumpy moments since the outage. People are losing their streams and such.
