Dollar Store No More

When Dollar Giant opened last year on Pender St. at Main in Vancouver's Chinatown, their signs boasted that everything in the store was $1.
No more.
They've added a ".25" to all the dollar signs in the windows. Everything in the store is now $1.25, other than food items which will continue to be $1.
I asked a security guard when the prices had gone up. "About a month ago," he said. Another clerk told me that the prices have not gone up at all Dollar Giants. "Not at the one on Kingsway & Clark or the one on Commercial Dr." She speculated that the price increase at the Chinatown location was due to the number of shoplifters.

I love how they tried to add the sign in to make it look like the 25 cents had been there all along.

When I was a kid we still called Penneys and other shops "five and dimes". Everything in the shop used to be 5 cents and 10 cents, back when pay was 25 cents an hour and a beer in a bar was a nickel (five cents), my grandmother's time, the 1920s and '30s.

Wow, even lead-painted, toxic crap from China is now more expensive. I don't trust anything you can but in a "dollar store"
