Domain name - A name owned by a person or organization. In other words your presence on the internet.

Registering a domain name can be a very exciting moment. A chance to put your company name or your site on the internet in your own style.


Here are some basic things tips to remember before registering a domain name.

- Keeping the domain nice and short to make it more memorable for your future visitors. (Under Ten Characters Is Suggested)

- Trying to avoid excessive numbers and hyphens.

- Pick a name that is related to your site.

- Always make sure you are completely satisfied with the name before you purchase it.

When I think about registering a domain name I kind of treat it as if I was getting a tattoo. If I am having any doubts I wont register it until I am happy with it or I have found a more suiting name.

A long with the decision to register a domain you also have to decide what kind of extension you want. Some examples are .COM .NET .ORG .EDU. .ME .CA .US

.COM is seen widely as the most popular extension available.. and because of that it may be a little difficult to register the domain you are wanting as a .COM.

I will usually try to register a .COM first and if that name is not available I will then try the rest of the extensions.


Unfortunately after you have decided on what name you want and the extension you would prefer.. you will then have to decide what company to use to register your domain. The internet provides hundreds of different companies to register domain names and each one will offer different prices and different offers. Some of the more popular registrars are.

You should always try and spend some time researching the products and services each registrar has to offer. Doing so should make your domain experience a more enjoyable one.
