I have sacrificed my entire Saturday working on this thing. I'm not used to Vista. In fact, I tried to downgrade it to XP since I didn't want to run Vista Home Premium on it. Not only that, they pre-loaded it with the 32-bit verison of Vista, which was really confusing to me since it's a 64-bit computer. Either way, I realized that I had a legal license to a copy of 64-Bit Windows Vista Ultimate through LSU, so I got that, installed it, and then spent hours tracking down all of the proper 64-bit drivers. More hours were spent installing, copying, etc.. Whew...
Overall, I'm fairly happy with the computer. It's fast enough--except for the graphics card, which I actually find a little slower than the one I had on my old HP! Of course, the HP is running XP, and I have the Vista Aero thinggie on this new Dell, which seems to really hog the graphics card.
Either way. After an entire Saturday's worth of work--I got everything transferred over from my HP (which was a LOT of stuff), got the Dell backing up to my NAS, and installed the software I'll need for my classes at ITT Tech.
