Ed Meyer, Grey CEO since 1970

at his first WPP board meeting. WPP acquired Grey in March. I first met Ed
Meyer in the 70s or 80s, when we happened to sit together on an airplane. I
have no idea where we were going, but I do recall the conversation as one
of the most fascinating I have had on an airplane. (Contenders, all
fortuitous, include Rupert Murdoch, Bruce Wasserstein, Bud Zumwalt, Bob
Kerrey (when he was trying to decide whether to take up the presidency of
the New School and Bill Bradley (Bill B only half by chance; we had been at
the same meeting in Moscow). And then there was the time I sat *behind*
Helen Gurley Brown (Cosmopolitan). I didn't get to talk to her, but all the
stewardesses [sic] came up, one by one, to pay their
respects.) Conclusion: Travel broadens the mind, even before you get there!
