Emma Sullivan Gets Apology from Sam Brownback, School
Emma Sullivan Victorious in Twitter Debacle
18-year-old Emma Sullivan, called on the carpet for a Twitter dis on Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, has scored a reversal. Sam Brownback apologized to Emma Sullivan in the end, after being ridiculed as a thin-skinned crybaby across the internet.
The Shawnee Mission School District also issued a statement, distancing themselves from Shawnee Mission East High School principal Karl Krawitz, who had ordered Emma Sullivan to write an apology letter to Sam Brownback.
Sullivan had refused to write the letter.
“District officials have reviewed recent events surrounding the reported tweet by Shawnee Mission East High School student Emma Sullivan. The district acknowledges a student's right to freedom of speech and expression is constitutionally protected," the statement said.
Both the district and Brownback's office touted the value of freedom of speech, but were singing a different tune before this story got as big as it did.
