Erskine Bowles: 40% Chance of Cliff Deal by Year-End

The United States stands a 40 percent chance of seeing Congress and the White House steer the economy away from a fiscal cliff by the end of this year, said Erskine Bowles, co-chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.

However, the country also stands a 35 percent the chance of going over the cliff, a combination of tax hikes and spending cuts due to take effect at the end of this year, and there is a 25 percent chance of getting a deal struck in early January.
