Who is Eugene Terrorblanche: White Man 'Hunts' Black Child in Racist Facebook Photo

South Africa is in an uproar over a photo that spread from Facebook to other parts of the web. The photo, posted to the account belonging to "Eugene Terrorblanche", depicts a white man in hunting gear posing over what appears to be the dead body of a black child.

South African law enforcement is now hunting this guy, and trying to determine if the photo is real. This would also involve identifying the child. Even if the photo is staged or 'shopped, the poster still violated South Africa's hate-speech laws.

The photo has actually been making the rounds for years, and the man who originally posed as the hunter had told the Priority Crime Investigation Group (Hawks) that the child was paid to pose for the photo.

The image is being reused, though, and was not reposted by the man holding the rifle in the photo. It's not clear what became of that guy, though: the result of the 2007 investigation isn't immediately available.

The name "Eugene Terrorblanche" is a play on Eugene Terre'Blanche, who founded the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (Afrikaner Resistance Movement), or AWB. The AWB is a neo-Nazi, white seperatist group dedicated to forming a "Boer State", having opposed the dismantling of Apartheid.

The AWB is not dead, and has been using Facebook to recruit at South African universities. Even if fake, the emotions stirred up are all too real.
