Is Face Recognition Software versus Eavesdroppers For Real?

Beware to laptop eavesdropper,  there's a new way for you not to see information displayed at your mate's computer screen.

This is how it works. Oculis Labs has PrivateEye for general use and Chameleon for extra protection. Both programs rely on the embedded cameras that are common computer features. A snapshot of the user’s face is taken by the two programs while he is working on his computer. Once the user looks away, the user’s image is scrambled by the programs. This way, whoever tries to peek into the computer would have a hard time reading anything on the computer. Security is assured whenever the user is not in front of his computer.

Does anyone know if face recognition software can be used to recognize other objects. For example, is we created a data base of tree's, could the iphone's camera then be used, in conjunction with the FRS to scan that tree and match it up to a data base?
