Same in Guangxi - stopped working about 7:30 last night - can't access Facebook or Twitter - enough to make me wanna leave China within the week if it doesn't get sorted out. Brings home how bad it is - will be blogging a lot AFTER I leave ;-)

I want my Facebook back. Aniway, don't trust any of those proxy servers, they might have embedded a code that allow them to see your username and password.

"...Web2Asia now reports that since 8pm Chinese time Facebook has also been blocked. This has been confirmed by users on Twitter, some of which link the latest blockade to Uighur protests in Xinjiang, which had left over 150 people killed and over 1,000 wounded."

If this is true, this suspension is truly awful!

The government couldn't stop the riot, what for stopping us from blogging over the internet? we are not interested in spreading news about China's attitude.

Same in tianjin. Foreigners will think very badly of the chinese government if this continues. my teacher needs youtube to explain biology concepts and i think thats why so many of my foreign teachers are leaving the school to go to other countries lol. I want to leave China too. >:(

i am a foreign teacher, from the uk, living in taiyuan, shanxi province and im thinking i will leave too! although my contract is another 7mths!! i am not happy at losing the facebook!  this had ruined my stay in china, and on shortening my contract, i will lose alot of money!!

Tianjin Facebook is not up and running here either since yesterday afternoon.... This is crazy as the riots have nothing to do with me talking with my friends and family. The country needs to realize that this overreaction makes the chinese people look deeper into each matter and they begin to lose respect for the government.

it's blocked in tianjin too...

but I can open it....

go on google and download one of this 2 programs:

- hotspot shield

        or

- freegate

Using this 2 program you can open facebook, youtube, and all what you want.

Gaaaaaa....facebook is freakin' blocked. I lost my respect for the chinese gov. when they blocked youtube, and now they blocked my facebook, good thing I'm leaving this "website-blocking obsessed" country in August...

for ppl who are  gonna be stuck here for a while:

go to google and search and dowload "hotspot shield", install it and turn it on when ya wanna go on to youtube or facebook etc.

My company in Shanghai uses:

Twitter, FaceBook, BlogSpot, YouTube and MySpace to promote our site abroad. Now only MySpace is accessible for us...

Our server is in USA and is running Google Adsense/analytics, FaceBook Connect and all videos are YouTube linked. Our visitors abroad see a fast site, while we get timeout on the Google codes sometimes, FaceBook connect is blocked now and all the videos are blank... We are really unable to use our own site here... How to promote it without these tools?

Dear friend,

As a Chinese man, I completely understand what the gov does,  in part, it is a way to protect the people in china from riots, bombings or other torrism. But I also understand the mass users of the communictave websites. Hope it couled be restored soon and facilitate communication among good peoples .

Riots happen when people become too angry because of perceived wrongs against them by the government, they are not directed by outside forces via facebook. These websites are blocked ONLY to prevent other people who are not in the area of the riots from seeing what is really happening or spreading news about arrests of dissidents and violence against the rioters. Censorship is used by all governments to protect THEMSELVES from any potential legitimate complaint about what they do and how they do it. All over the world, people in power seek to stay in power at any cost, whether it means an end to freedom of speech or violent suppression of uprising.  Call that "harmony" or social control, the sole purpose is to prevent people from challenging the actions of those in power.
