Facebook Changed Your Email: How to Change It Back
Facebook Wants You To Use Its Email System. Here's How to Opt Out
Facebook is trying to make its email system relevant by forcibly changing your contact settings. This is the email address that your friends see when they visit your profile page, as opposed to the one which Facebook uses to communicate with you.
Sorry, Zuck, but nobody will ever use their @facebook.com address. It's just not going to happen. To that end, here's how to change your Facebook email address back to the one that you actually use.
- Go to your your own Facebook page.
- Click About, under your user image (Not Account Settings in the upper right of the screen, confusingly enough).
- Find"Contact Info" on the right-hand side of the screen and click Edit.
- Reverse the active and inactive settings for the relevant email addresses. Guess which one is irrelevant.
Oh, and Facebook: please stop screwing with out accounts behind our backs. It's the sort of thing that makes people hate you. Seriously, does anyone really think that the Facebook email address exists for any other reason than to provide more fodder for the targeted-advertising system?
