FaceBook Feeling Cutbacks? Squeezing Fan Page Width taking Boxes!

On August 23rd FaceBook is making some changes to to the Fan Page layout. The 755px wide Fan Page tabs will become 520px wide and the Boxes in the sidebar will vanish!

What does this mean? It means that if you have a wider Fan Page than 520px or if you rely heavily on the use of boxes in your side bar then you may have some issues on August 23rd for your FaceBook page. This is okay for some but for a lot of business and professionals who rely on the marketing power of FaceBook this could spell trouble when thousands of dollars have been spent on elaborate Fan Pages and Applications.
In a nutshell this is what FaceBook has to say on the Admin Page today:
"To make your Page easier to browse, we’re simplifying a couple things: 1. Boxes are going away (including the Boxes tab); 2. All custom tabs will be narrower (520 pixels). This is your chance to preview your Page and make edits as needed before the new layout goes public on August 23."

To fix the problem for simple pages will be a matter of shrinking the images by a percentage (The new 520px width is 68.8742% of the original 755px) or redesigning a layout and editing the code in the FBML (FaceBook's unique mark up language). For more complex pages with video, slide shows and various widgets, the work will be a lot more intensive.
