Fake Veteran Brags About Getting Free Food
Troll Alert: Fake Veteran on Veteran's Day
When we post on stories like Free Meals for Veterans on Remembrance Day, one question always lingers in the backs of our minds: what about people who cheat? How many people taking advantage of these deals are fake veterans?
Some troll called Johnnyb34435 has admitted to being just such a fake veteran. In a YouTube clip called "Veterans Day Fun?", this guy brags about dressing up in a "military costume" on Veterans Day, and going out to collect the freebies.
Whether or not he really did this (he doesn't have a very convincing military look about him, and wouldn't be old enough to be a vet of anything beyond Gulf War I), the anger he stirred up is quite real.
This used to be a crime, actually: The Stolen Valor Act was passed in 2005, but ruled unconstitutional five years later. The Federal Government wants an appeal; this is pretty much the sort of thing they had in mind when pushing the bill.
The trolling continued: this guy posted another video, trolling vets about trolling them earlier.
We never thought we'd read a YouTube comments stream and approve. When you use the term "sheeple" in the video description, you give the comments nowhere to go but down.
