Falling Bear Photo Goes Viral: Tranquilized Bear Becomes a Meme

A photo (below) posted by Andy Duann on Twitter Thursday of a tranquilized bear falling out of a tree went viral by Friday morning.

Gil Asakawa, who advises the Independent (the student publication of the University of Colorado Boulder), where the photo was originally published with report says the photo received 10,000 page views by that evening.

The young bear, estimated to weigh between 150-200 pounds, had somehow wandered onto the University of Colorado campus and climbed into a tree. It had spent over two hours in a tree terrifying students. 

Something tells me that he was just waiting for a pic-a-nic basket though.

While it's never funny that an animal has to be tranquilized, all ended well. He landed safely on a mattress and was released into the wild when he woke up.

Several memes have popped up on the internet causing the bear to become a viral sensation.
