Mars Curiosity Sends Us Self-Portrait from the Surface of Mars

The Mars Curiosity rover sent its first image back to Earth at just past 10:30pm PT on August 5, and it was not a photo of Dr. Manhattan, nor of Cuato. Indeed, Curiosity sent us a self-portrait. You can see the Martian horizon, along with one of Curiosity's own wheel.

Below you can see the first photo sent from the Mars Curiosity rover.

The Mars Curiosity rover was not designed for duckface.

One of the first things Mars Curiosity did once the landing was complete: set up a Facebook account. Hey, it's alone on the surface of Mars. It could use a few friends.

Who's got six wheels, a laser and is currently en route to the Red Planet? Me. I'm Curiosity, aka the Mars Science Laboratory rover.
