Flickr Launches Facebook-like People Tagging Feature

Yahoo's photo-sharing website Flickr has launched its new people tagging "People in Photos" feature today. To me, it came as a surprise. I am not a big Flickr user, but I have an account, and for some reason I thought that if Facebook has the people tagging option, than Flickr's got to have one too! But, it turns out that Flickr is just catching on by allowing their users to tag people in photos.

It is also interesting to see someone in the market finally copying something that Facebook does. Lately, it has consistently been Facebook imitating Twitter in one way of another -- first, it was the Twitter-like status feed layout, than the @user status tagging.

Like with Facebook, Flickr users will be able to tag their contacts in their photos. An identifying box will go around each tagged person's face. Finally, each tagged person will see that they were tagged.

But, some experts say Flickr's people tagging is better than Facebook's -- unlike what Facebook currently does, Flickr gives you an option to block people from ever tagging you in the photo that you untagged. One also has more control over who can tag you in their photos and who can tag themselves in your photos.

Have you tried the new feature? What is your take on it?
