New legislation in Florida increases unemployment payments in the Claim Your Weeks program, which may entitle some jobless people with Federal Additional Compensation of $25 per week.

Recent legislation may entitle you to an additional $25.00 per week, beginning with the week ending February 28, 2009. The first FAC payment was issued on March 19, 2009. FAC Payments will be issued as a separate payment each time weeks are paid. On March 27, 2009 a payment will be issued for all eligible weeks that were paid prior to March 19, 2009. EFT payments will be deposited on schedule. Checks will be mailed by April 3, 2009. The week ending July 3, 2010 will be the last payable week for the additional $25.00 payment. No action is necessary on your part to qualify for these payments.

Florida's unemployment rate reportedly grew by 4.2% in the last year in August. Some think that the legislation extended jobless benefit claims are a sign that employers are reluctant to hire and do not see improvement happening soon.
