Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For: Some are Hiring

I wondered why Fortune Magazine list of 100 Best Companies to work for was such a popular search term today... It seems a bit out of synch with the extremely gloomy tide of layoff news. I just didn't get it.

Until I checked out a related article and read the bit below:

Of the 100 companies, 73 are hiring, and the open positions are identified in Fortune's list, the magazine said.

Fifteen companies made the list for the first time, including Zappos.com, DreamWorks Animation SKG, salesforce.com, T-Mobile and Accenture.

I guy I know from high school works for salesforce.com now: like other Bay Area companies, it probably benefitted in the long term from the dot-com bubble's burst, snapping up otherwise-unavailable brains.

The companies that are able to hire during the down economy will find themselves in an enviable position: access to employees who would either not othewise be job-hunting, or who would normally demand more money to switch jobs.
