300 Foxconn Workers Threaten Mass Suicide at Xbox Factory

Workers at the Foxconn Technology Park in Wuhan, China, threatened to commit suicide over a labor dispute. Foxconn workers demanded a raise in the beginning of 2012. Factory bosses said no, and that workers who didn't like it could quit with a month's severance pay.

45 workers took the deal, but Foxconn apparently reneged on the severance package. This prompted a mass action at Foxconn, in which up to 300 workers made their way to a rooftop and threatened to jump.

Foxconn is no stranger to suicides: there were 14 in 2010 alone. Foxconn manufactures a big chunk of the world's gadgets at several different factories throughout China. The mass suicide threat took place at a workshop where the Microsoft Xbox is manufactured.
