UPDATE: Warning! If you go the PhotoshopExpress site, it will tell you you need FLashPlayer 9. Don't download it from the Photoshop/Express site! All your flashplayers will disappear. You will not be able to view any flash on websites, etc.

And to top that off, the Adobe site where you get the downloads/upgrades, won't let you get the earlier versions!

This seems insidious to me.

UPDATE: BUT.... after viewing the forums on many others' problems with this new version of Flash Player, I found a routine that works.

  1. run Disk Utilities to verify permissions.
  2. Go the Adobe site to download both the Uninstall FlashPlayer and the Install FlashPlayer.
  3. Uninstall your old version of flashPlayer.
  4. Run repair permissions on Disk Utlilty.
  5. Install the new version of FlashPlayer.
  6. Run repair permissions one more time.

There undoubtedly is a routine for Microsoft Windows or Vista OS. There are instructions for this on the Adobe site.

This works and should keep the panic at bay.

SAN FRANCISCO - The maker of the popular photo-editing software Photoshop on Thursday launched a basic version available for free online.

San Jose, Calif.-based Adobe Systems Inc. says it hopes to boost its name recognition among a new generation of consumers who edit, store and share photos online.

While Photoshop is designed for trained professionals, Adobe says Photoshop Express, which it launched in a "beta" test version, is easier to learn. User comments will be taken into account for future upgrades.

Cool, I don't use Photoshop enough to justify the pricetag, so this is great.  Although I hope the express version keeps the liquify function...it's good for making friends look like monsters, which is important.

Here's the link: Photoshop Express. Adobe is hoping users will opt to get the $99 Photoshop Elements, the lite version. Easier to learn, use, has most features.

Warning! Don't download/upgrade to flashplayer 9! Esp. on Macs! You will be in for many time-consuming problems, cuz your flashplayer will disappear. Don't know if windows is having the same problems.

Interesting Rene, thanks for the warning; I was just going to go and download it!

Don't! Don't! Don't do this upgrade!

Don't! Don't! Don't do this upgrade!
