Friendly's Closes 63 Stores in Bankruptcy Filing: Goodbye, Coneheads

Friendly's Ice Cream Corp, which began in1935 as an ice cream shop and expanded into a chain of family restaurants, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Friendly's is closing 63 of its 500 locations.

East Coast ice cream fans must say goodbye to Coneheads and Fribbles.

Friendly's is yet another victim of the economic quagmire that has gripped the United States for the past several years. It started during the Great Depression, but could not survive the Great Recession.
