Gates and Seinfeld "I'm a PC" (Update)
Story Continues, Commercial released, new NowPublic news story here.
This story Highlighted with a Mac.
P.C. (Politically correct) Has never been Seinfeld's strong suit.......
Microsoft is going to start a new $300 (mil? ed) advertising blitz to try to regain some of the street credibility they have been losing over all these years. The campaign is built around the idea that "Windows breaks down barriers than prevent people and ideas from connecting." Sounds like corporate PR-puffing, but there's a twist: it will star Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld.
Seinfeld will get $10 million to star in the presumably funny commercials, which is quite a good chunk of cash compared to the low fare that John Hodgman (Mr. PC) and Justin Long (Mr. Please someone slap that guy) must be getting for their long series of TV, internet and print ads. Let's hope they are better than the Apple ones. Somehow, I feel a connection happening between Jerry and Bill. And perhaps a romantic comedy on the wings.
Maybe it is just me, but is an aging comedian who has an affinity for quirky unreliable vintage cars really the right pitch man for the job here ?
At $10 million, Maybe Seinfeld can afford a brake job now for his '67 Fiat, and get a little body work done to boot.
It takes more than money and a smart ass to fix an image problem Bill.
Well, as our readers have noted, there's a bit of irony to this, since many of us recall that Seinfeld was always using a Mac on his '90s sitcom. That got us thinking: Should Microsoft hire someone not so clearly playing both sides of the fence?
So it seems Jerry is a Mac'Daddy and Microsoft makes yet another marketing blunder by not bedding their pitch man better.
