Recent stepped up activity in foreign matters follows an election where international issues have rarely been discussed.

The global crisis dominated over economic issues in President Obama’s message. The challenges from foreign policy intruded into Obama’s pledges on the economy. He was delivering this message after the debacle of the Democrats in the November elections.

The increase in posturing between the two Koreas recently took up the limelight in the post-election period that covered two trips abroad by the President. There were discussions about Afghanistan’s future and a discussion in Washington over ratification by the Senate regarding a treaty (nuclear) with Russia.

Obama is running a risk by spending funds and efforts on an international crisis. It will give the impression that he is not giving the economic woes of the people of America top priority – employment and foreclosures.
