As GM and Chrysler fight for survival, some underperforming auto lines are to be discontinued, while others will live to cruise another day.

What Goes:
PT Cruiser
If an accountant were tasked to create a "cool" (with air-quotes) station wagon, it'd be the PT Cruiser. I'll probably get a few hate PMs for that crack, but I just find it overthought, kind of like the new GnR album.
Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen Pretty much the same vehicle. The Durango may be resurrected in a few years.
Hummer Got hammered by rising fuel prices and a wounded economy: worst sales drop of any American car. The suburban road warrior will be either sold or eliminated.
Saturn This one never really did that great (though one of my friends has one and loves it), and will likely be dead by 2011.
Saab The Swedish line will be sold, and Sweden is considering buying it back.

What Stays:
Jeep Cherokee
Chrysler 300
Dodge Charger
Chrysler 200C (alternative-fuel version)
Chevy Volt (electric)

Also, Chrysler will get access to Fiat's technology, including some pre-existing vehicles, and, in turn, the Italian automaker would get an equity stake in Chrysler.

Chrysler also said that new versions of two of Chrysler's popular sedans would be coming soon, as well as a new Jeep. Chrysler also has vague plans to bring an electric car to market next year.

The big Auto giants did this to themselves. Years of ignoring the issues on the planet, ie: climate change, dwindling fossil fuels and changing public demands. Now they are blackmailing the Government and the taxpayers to keep them afloat so that thousands of autoworkers don't loose their jobs.

I bet if you took half of every one of the top 20 executives's bank accounts and investments, in each company, you could get a couple billion right there to float their companies. After that point if they come with an actual plan for retooling their production to produce sensible functional cars within say 5 to 8 years, then they can have the bailout dough. They have learned nothing except they can f**k up and the Government will still bail them out. I know that it takes longer than 5 years to reset a massive company, so what?? they're asking for a ridiculous amount of money so why can't we have ridiculous expectations??

Also frankly, if we, the consumer, want big trucks and suvs and we don't care about the ramifications to the environment, make us pay a premium. Unless it can be proven necessary for work. I am sick to death of watching teenagers hauling around in Pickups and SUVs with v6 and v8 engines. We can't bitch unless we're being responsible ourselves.

A pink Hummer? Okay the picture did get me here. 

Who will be dead by 2011, the car or the friend? I suppose Saturn.

Sounds very vague what Chrysler is up to. Hydrogen Powered cars for the JEEP line or BIO Diesel now that would be a great move.

GM is already making plenty bio-diesels in Brazil, where they plan to take $1 billion of the bailout money they got to set up another factory. Shouldn't they be doing that here? WTF's with that?

GM is making Ethanol not Bio Diesel engines those run on cooking oil and waste Grease. Only a few Make those such as India, Germany, Japan and Russia. 

I was talking about Chrysler though. They make some Propane run engines and not on the Jeep line those have a couple of Diesel Engines that are from Daimler-Benz.
