Google will soon be launching a live-streaming music service involving major label artists who will supply material for the feature such as videos. This new service will be separate from Google's involvement in China's Vevo music video service. It has not yet been verified whether the service will offer downloadable tracks or just live streaming music.

The company will not become a music retailer, but will offer enhanced music search with a streaming function — first of possibly several vertical search offerings. Searching for an artist or song will apparently bring up a box (thus Google’s working title: “OneBox”) with a streaming link randomly assigned to stream from either Lala or iLike.

TechCrunch believes that the upcoming music service will possibly be named "Google Audio" but there is still speculation about details of the service in general. Google's audio service will be the latest contender for iTunes and Amazon in terms of downloads and streaming music. The service will be available first in the US later this year.
