Google has released Google Zeitgeist 2010 - the annual report from Google that tracks the top trends and search traffic terms for 2010 across a variety of categories.
As usual with the Google Zeitgeist report it is a mix of the predictable and the quirky.
Google Zeitgeist 2010 Entertainment
On the predictable side Google Zeitgeist reports that Justin Bieber was the fastest rising search term in the Entertainment category. With Shakira, Eminem, Netflix, and youtube videos rounding out the top five in the Entertainment category.
Google Zeitgeist News
In the News category Google Zeitgeist ranks Haiti as number one. Besiktas ranked number two which is unusual. Besiktas, in district in Istanbul, Turkey. Allen Iverson is now playing for a basketball team in Beiktas. Chile, Eartquake, and Lady Gaga, iphone, and oil spill all made the top ten In The News category.
Google Zeitgeist, Top Global Events
Overall the top events globally according to Google Zeitgeist were World Cup 2010, the Vancouver Olympics, the Haiti Earthquake, Iceland Volcano, and the BP Oil Spill.

And the eighth wonder of the world occurred in 2010. NowPublic survived - but what a shadow of its former self. Nothing worthwhile to read and so few contributors posting. 2011?

Based on the aggregation of billions of search queries people typed into Google this year, Zeitgeist captures the spirit of 2010.

Mark Zuckerberg has been a name all year (and the year before). Julian Assange's name only popped up recently. This is probably why Time chose Zuckerberg.whatisguide.net
