At My Wedding Twitterring and Facebooking at the Altar

You think that your partner spends too much time on the web? Check out Dana Hanna, a computer programmer from Maryland, who thought it was a good idea to tweet and update his Facebook relationship status while getting married. Yes, Dana Hanna actually tweeted from the altar.

Here is the Dana Hanna tweet from the altar:

Standing at the altar with @TracyPagewhere just a second ago, she became my wife! Gotta go, time to kiss my bride.#weddingday

As if he wasn't plugged in enough, the Dana Hanna tweeting from the altar incident was filmed and uploaded to YouTube.

Some might find the idea of someone updating their Facebook status to "Married" from the altar to be endearing, but it's easy to see how even the most tech-savvy person might think that Dana Hanna went a little too far.

Bride Tracy Park had no idea Hanna was going to do this, according to TechCrunch, which is just as well, since now she can claim innocence in this ultimate monument to techno-narcissism.

My bride and I thought it was funny!  She had no clue, and it sure made my family laugh.  I don't twitter that much - I just like to have a good time.  See the related video of my kids dancing during our first dance.Come on people!  Loosen up.  You only live once!

Hello,I am writing from a documentary film company in Canada. We are producing a one hour documentary on the impact of technology on people's lives- both positive and negatvie. We came across your story and thought that it would make a great example of how tweeting, facebook and other social media had affected the most sacred spaces. The show is airing on CBC Television in Canada and internationally around the world. Our website is www.cbc.ca and www.meritmotionpictures.comThe clip also shows the major generation gap between those who thought it was funny ( I thought it was cute) and those who were outraged.  I wondered how you and Tracey would feel about us showing the clip in our show? Given that it is also very personal, your wedding, I would love to speak to you further about how you viewed it. We are a professional, balanced team  of filmmakers interested in telling stories so please give me call of email at your earliest convenience. I thought it was really cute, no harm done & it was definitely  a good way to get a laugh out of the crowd, which I think was the intention.

a wedding is not supposed to be about getting a laugh from the crowd.  It's supposed to be about making a committment to someone.  Obviously that committment isn't there if you couldn't put your cell phone away, or LEAVE IT AT HOME on what is supposed to be the most important day of your life.  You must be the guy who answers his phone in the checkout line at the grocery store too.  Pathetic!
