Bastard. Monster. Disgrace. Bitch. Idiot. Animal.
Hatred: It’s lurid vocabulary screams out these days.
Hate paints the backdrop to global conflict. Hatred divides people in religions, in the home, in North American political “discourse.” It rises up over gender, sexual orientation and ethnicity. It poisons some media, especially so-called shock radio.
Journalists often believe they’re hardened to hatred, because we know it’s our job to cover or comment on controversial things. But, as a journalist, I’m having to get used to being a greater object of hatred than before.
