So it's official: evidence of the Higgs boson has been discovered. Said CERN Director General Rolf Heuer, "We have reached a milestone in our understanding of nature." The subatomic particle meets the description of how the Higgs is supposed to behave.

We would like to think that scientists meticulous enough to discover evidence of the long-sought "God Particle" were purposely trolling when they used Comic Sans in their PowerPoint presentation.

Stephen Hawking is Out a Hundred Bucks

One person who's slightly less happy about the Higgs boson discovery: Professor Stephen Hawking. He bet $100 that the particle wouldn't be discovered. Stephen Hawking's a good sport, though, saying that the discovery of the Higgs boson is worthy of a Nobel Prize.
