SOLARLIFE, I like this story. It's good stuff. Darned good stuff! I want a smaller hybrid of some sort. I live "downtown" (AKA, our historic district, with very small streets!), very close to major things like symphony (community center), restaurants, library, etc so my driving for everyday things doesn't use up a whole lot of resources. But I want to use even less!

Thanks PEP for Flag "10 years SmartCar Cult status", your comment "I want a smaller hybrid of some sort. I live "downtown". A smart car spyder (open like James Dean Porsche) was presented with hybrid drive, one year ago. Still nobody wants to be the first with Li-Ion batteries (your Laptop battery). The real secret story... I was doing a layout study with Hayek years ago for Hybrids, Mercedes said no. Now America asking for it. times are changing, ten years ago Europeans fought for the Diesel only, that was an error.

Yet the Idea is Japanese. I fund a Car that looks almost Identical to the First SMARTCAR.
Here in Japan, however this one was made almost 20 years ago. Will try to get you a picture.

Paschen, thanks for Flag "10 Y Smart car cult car", your comment " I found a Car that looks almost Identical to the First SMARTCAR." I have to say as far as I know the Smart car design was made in a California design studio. If you don't find your "original", look for the first japanese cult car in Europe the legendary Honda 800 Cabrio, the engine was derrived from the Honda 750 ccm 4cyl motorcycle. Smart delivered for 2 years a cabrio 800 ccm 3 cylinders. But don't worry the chinese copied the Smart car, however the Original will start to sell in China 2009. A new way to beat copies; sell the original in China they buy every european luxury brand, have enough money now. I will update to "Small power cult cars around the globe". The most famous car in France the R4 or Renault 4 hatchback found a perfect retro design in Japan perhaps you find it. My french readers would love to see it.

Barry thanks for Flag "10 years smart car cult car", could you contribute for Canada at least with one "Small cult car", I know mission impossible, so a Pacer would be accepted, waiting for your surprisals. Update: "All small cult cars around the globe"

Okay, here is a the Pacer, voted the most ugliest Car in North America, regardless that it got good gas mileage, many who purchased it, found themselves dateless on many a night. THe Pacer was used as well in Waynes Worlds, with Wayne and Garth as pretty much dateless, but for movie fantasy which saw them get dates which in the real world would not have happened anywhere else in the Free world.

Tata Nano - ~ US$ 2500.
I believe there are no options for the engine - it's a small petrol-powered 2-banger ...

Unfortunately, small cars are not yet a way of life in the U.S., though I have always loved the Mini Cooper. I will look for a picture and post it soon as I can.
On a U.S. small car scale, I recently talked my father into a Prius, though it hardly stands up to cult status. Better for the environment though!

Almost forgot, Mr. Bean's car always peaked my interest when I was a bit younger.

Thanks PlanMyGreen for uploading your compact cult cars. I go for the Minicooper too, on the european mountain streets, it's like a gocart, the other we forgot Toyota Prius, the new california cult car.
