Honda makes first hydrogen cars
Japanese car manufacturer Honda has begun the first commercial production of a zero-emission, hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle.
The four-seater, called FCX Clarity, runs on hydrogen and electricity, emitting only water vapour.
Honda claims the vehicle offers three times better fuel efficiency than a traditional, gasoline-powered car.
Honda plans to produce 200 of the cars, which are initially only available to lease, over the next three years.
One of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of wider adoption of fuel-cell vehicles is the lack of hydrogen fuelling stations.
The first five customers are all based in southern California because of the proximity of hydrogen fuelling stations, Honda said.
US actress Jamie Lee Curtis will be among the first to take delivery of the vehicle, the firm added.

flight737, I like this story. It's good stuff.
I think that is great that Honda takes such great strides towards zero emissions vehiicles! I think the fact that Japanese automobile companies are not extricably linked to oil companies are a major factor in them not hindered by developing such cars unlike GM or Ford.

Honda is not the first to make Hydrogen Cars!! VW has 40 Hydrogen powered cars in Wolfsburg FRG and BMW has been selling Hydrogen powered cars for two years now in Germany. Germany is the only country so far that has Hydrogen Gas stations and those are still scares. Why BMW build a car that can run on both Hydrogen as well as Gasoline!
THe Technology has been around for two hundred Years already, how ever has been pushed to the side by Oil interest since 1910!

This is the car I was exactly talking about in my Run your Car with Water article. Now does everybody believe that its true? Thank you Honda!

this car is not run off hydrigen produced by splitting water, its run by hydrogen that is pumped into a tank in the car, nuch like gasoline. The problem with splitting water is it takes more electrical energy to powered the cell than the energy the hydrogen could produce.

As I said earlier, you title is not correct!! Honda is by far not the first to make Hydrogen Cars nor the first to sale those comercially!! Now I am glad that Honda is finally jumping on the wagon, yet you need to be informative not miss leading nor propagandist! It is good news yes, however not accurate nor correct in it's title nor contend!

thanx for the info Paschen, but i think you have to take the issue futher with BBC because i only reported what they said to the now public community. Thanx anyway i will make sure to do some digging before putting "accurate" info to the community.

To error is Human! Is it not and even BBC does not always do their accurate digging since it would maybe not sound as sensational and since most have a rather short memory who would notice any how! The chance of someone reading it and actually working or having worked in the field and taking the time to complain is rather slim and there for a acceptable risk to take, is it not!?

This is great news for Honda. But I honestly think they still need to catch up big time with the success of the Toyota Prius.
