Models Affected by Honda Recall:

  • Global: 4-cylinder Accord sedans (2005 to 2010)
  • US, Canada: CR-V crossover SUV (2007 to 2010)
  • US, Canada: Element SUV (2005 to 2008)
  • China: Odyssey minivan (2005 to 2009)
  • China: Spirior sedan (2010)

No accidents or injuries have been attributed to the Honda automatic transmission software problem. Honda is contacting owners of affected vehicles in late August. If you have one of the affected Hondas, you'll have to bring it in to your dealer for a software update.

Honda said the problems might arise if the transmission were quickly shifted between the reverse, neutral and drive positions. A driver might do this in an attempt to dislodge a vehicle in mud or snow.

The automatic transmission secondary shaft bearing could be damaged in this scenario.
