Honda announced an expansion to their recall today, on an already previously announced recall of certain 2001 and 2002 model vehicles to replace the driver's airbag inflator.

They have issued the recall for an additional 378,758 vehicles in the United States. They are concerned that the dirver's airbag could deploy with more pressure than needed, which could cause injury or death. There are 12 documented cases of this issue to date.

The recall models affected:

2001 and 2002 Honda Accord

2001 and 2002 Honda Civic

2001 and 2002 Honda Odyssey

2001 and 2002 Honda CR-V

2002 Honda Acura TL

Owners with vehicles that are affected will receive a notice to take their car to an authorized dealer once they receive the official notice.

The notices are expected to start going out this month.

As with nearly all Honda and Acura safety recalls, Honda originally brought this matter to the attention of NHTSA and has kept NHTSA apprised of our decision to include additional vehicles in the expanded recall.

If you own one of the above listed vehicles, you can go to the owner website, or call (800) 999-1009.

Acura owners can go to their owner website or call (800) 382-2238.

One has to wonder how long those air bags are going to hold up.
