Honda Recall: 412,000 Vehicles Pulled Over "Soft" Break Pedal
Honda To Recall Thousands Of Odyssey And Element Vehicles
Honda has issued a recall of 412,000 vehicles, including 344,000 Odyssey and 68,000 Element models. Honda says it has received customer complaints of brake pedals that feel "soft" or gradually exhibit a pedal height that gets lower before the vehicle stops. The problem also has a tendency to aggravate with time in affected vehicles.
Honda admits engineering problems are to blame. The automaker claims modulators in its cars allow for air intrusion. And, it is the air accumulated over a period of time that gives the 'soft brake pedal' effect. Although not all vehicles being recalled are affected by this issue, Honda is recalling "all possible units" to assure all customers of proper performance.
Customers will begin to get notified if their vehicles are affected at the end of April.
Honda Follows Toyota
Another automaker Toyota is facing gory days with eight of their models being recalled over a faulty accelerator pedal. The so-called "runaway Prius" story added extra negative publicity to the already battered automaker, when a Prius owned by San Diego man James Sikes sped up unexpectedly while he was driving on the highway. Sikes had to be helped by the police to stop his car. Yesterday, Toyota management questioned the account that 'runaway Prius' owner provided, saying his testimony was inconsistent with the company's investigation into the incident.
