NP Rank:
The hottest name online is Palin's
Whatever yout opinion of Sarah Palin, it's clear that the Alaska governor has captured the public's attention. She seems to have attracted an equal amount of loathing and love, splitting the country clear down the middle and exascerbating the culture wars that have existed in the United States since the 1960s.
When she was named the Republican vice presidential candidate late last month, Sarah Palin was certainly the least known of the four major-party candidates in the campaign for the White House.
But in terms of the growth of popularity on the internet, the others would soon, well, pale in comparison.
Palin's name took up three of the top six spots on Hitwise's list of the fastest growing search terms in the days after Republican nominee John McCain named his running mate. She quickly shot to No. 1 among search terms on the search engine Lycos -- far outpacing McCain, Democratic nominee Barack Obama and Obama's second, Joseph Biden.

Dave Keating, I like this story. It's good stuff.
I don't think it is politically wise for Democrats to focus to single-mindedly on discrediting Palin. Doing so creates the risk that if for some reason she bows out of the ticket, it might send a green light to undecided voters to give their support to McCain and his new running mate. Best to focus more on Senator McCain's politics than on Governor Palin's, just in case the ethics case she is involved in goes badly or something else happens to have her leave the ticket.
