The proposed $700 billion bailout has brought immense media attention as well as that of ordinary Americans, and the surest test of that came from the House of Representatives' own website, which was deluged with hits after it hosted the bill.
Before and after the failed vote to pass the bill, their email servers took a major hit when millions of people tried to send in their thoughts, concerns and outrage all at once.
"This is unprecedented," said Jeff Ventura, communications director for the House's chief administrator.The tidal waves of e-mails and page views began after negotiators announced Sunday that a deal had been reached on legislation to enact a $700 billion bailout of the country's financial system.
