Hands-on with Verizon's HTC Droid Eris

HTC has unveiled the Droid Eris, which will sell alongside the Motorola Droid on the Verizon network in the US. The HTC Droid Eris ist he least-expensive Android handset available, and boasts the Sense UI overlay. Also, it's slightly smaller and lighter than the Droid. However, it's not as powerful, as it does not run Android 2.0. Eventually it will, though. Both the Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Eris launch on November 6th. So, if you don't want to spend the extra money on the Motorola handset, perhaps HTC's is the Droid you're looking for.

In the specs department, the Motorola Droid trumps the Droid Eris. The Droid Eris has no keyboard, a smaller lower resolution display (3.2-inches as opposed to the Droid's mammoth 3.7-inch display), and a slightly slower processor. The Droid Eris also ships with Android OS 1.5 so it is missing all of the Android 2.0 goodies found on the Motorola Droid, like Google Navigation and a universal inbox.

If you type "Droid" enough times, it starts to look weird.
