Sometimes its best not to be honest, but that can end up in feeling guilty.
The 15 August 2008 was a very sad day for me, it was a day that my whole world went haywire due to a software problem on a social news community site. The software problem made me a little bit paranoid as I had published an article called "Georgia and Russia, why is there a problem"At a time when the media was being sympathetic to Georgia my article was sympathetic to Russia.
My ability to post and comment hard been restricted on my own column, now I am sure it was a software glitch and not done purposely by the administration of the news community. But I stupidly because I could comment elsewhere on other members column blamed the administration for gagging my comments on my own article. I received a life time ban.
However I am surprised that the news community still kept my articles and my old column still there for its member to see. When they normally delete the total entries when a member is banned, I have thought fact this to be strange.
Of course I being who I am and having the need to publish on the site I really like because of the great debates and with some of the greatest thinkers on the internet. I open a new account using a different IP on a different computer.
Yep I have been deceptive a year or so now, the articles I write are published on two news media sites one with my original name and one as Jesusitshot. I have not changed my style I have not caused any further problems to the community I still write on. I am sure that many of the members of the news community know my old screen name. At a good guess the admin know as well.
But though I am sad it was the thumbs down I am gladden by the support of old and new friends and to see I had only a ratio of 24% dislike value.

As citizen journalist we have to realize that rules are not for breaking and work within the rules. Unfortunately when you get it wrong your media site can ban you, I realized its not the same when you change your name and sneak back on as the old name mean something its part of what you are, I am the Babel Fish its been my screen name for years. However I do not hide behind it as I did a bit with Jesusitshot.
But there I was publishing the same articles under two different names.
News value to a citizen journalist is something that someone would be interested in reading it could be "how to repair a hole in the roof or a total analysis of the global political chess game" We are not about just the latest news issues its a matter of making the amount of eggs a penguin lays look as damn interesting as possible, lol
I really do hate that "I can not see that its newsworthy" statement of which places that remark in my head "hey! we create our own news, not copy it". lol
However the article gives a warning of don't be as silly as me and recognize that codes of conduct and rules are used to stop the trolls and try to achieve people respecting the opinions of others.
Yes my article does have news value you for a start where interested to read it. I have however had second thoughts and took the last paragraphed out of my article as it did need improving and the title needed changing and the flag was warranted.
But a citizen journalist hates some one saying their articles are not newsworthy, lol Its like a sharp dig in the ribs. lol. Then we get arrogant ahhh we are our own worst enemies.

One thing I have learnt well and thats never get paraniod over software glitches, that many news communities have differing attractions that there are only two news communities that I think are worthy of the time I spent publishing articles, reading and commenting on. Sadly I have lost membership of one of them first through stupidness and then for being final honest with myself and to the administration and community.
However I still have readers to bore with my rubbish, lol

As being a long time actor as citizen journalism, I think that your "case", what you do, where you do and how social media sites work in real life, have news value.

Dude,
I can't believe they banned you. I'm well aware of the hordes that complain in unison at Newsvine to scuttle people's freedom of speech. This has been a problem for a long time now. You're contributions are well researched and packed with facts. It's Newsvine's loss, but it's also mine and all those many friends that looked forward to your work. I guess I'll be following you here from now on my friend. Be sure to email me when you post, I'd hate to miss anything...

Thank you Pasi of getting the message over to newsvine administration about the IP problem on Filipino Sky cable. I will keep my word and not go on the vine and opening a fresh account. I also respect the ban and do not want it lifted as a matter of princible not because I am upset as Tyler had to make a decision its his and it should not be change. My article here had nothing to do with getting back on the vine.
It was to do with sealing my agreement that I honored my agreement with Tyler the administrator. That his decision was final and so it should be. Also the article is a warning to others not to do as I have done as you end up being the one thats chops off one of your publishing platforms. You also lose touch with friends I used to have many on the vine.
It also puts a value on who I am and that is the Babel Fish with no need to hide behind a false title and have an account under a false name. The Babel Fish is of course not my real name my real names too long and is not as humorous as my non de plume. My real name is in my profile bio.
Thank you also for pointing to this article as my new friends as Jesusitshot and old friends as Babel Fish now know where to find me. Your are a very valid old newsvine friend and been a good friend here on the this news community i thank you for that as well.

Nice to see you here hamid, thanks for praise, you must of read only my analysis stuff, and missed the rubbish or at least crazy articles, lol I can never be sure if they scuttled my freedom of speech but the article on Georgia and Russia was a scoop as I was the first to read between the lines about Georgia and the american influence. I research the Russian press and the Georgian press at the time the all the media was blaming Russia. The first media story that followed my reasoning came out about 2 days after I wrote my article.
georgia-and-russia-why-is-there-a-problem
MSN was of course bashing Russia and my story found its onto the MSN portal. So even if it was a software glitch coincident you may see why I went paranoid. I thought MSNBC was put the gag on me. I have never thought that the community was involved in any way.
Your on my email list as you know and I know the type of articles you like and your interests so yep thats for sure my friend.
But I blame myself for acting like a troll when in a paranoid state I even thought the CIA where involved, lol
But when you got a good story that had and angle even better than the tabloids did, when the media switched on to my way of thinking, its not the time to have a problem with the software.
Peace be with you
Bob

More power to your keyboard, Babelfish.
Missed you on the Vine. I had an early "run-in" with Tyler too.

Playing devil's advocate here, since I see an admin flag...
Are YOU newsworthy? Is NowPublic a personal blog, or a news site? Sometimes the line seems quite blurry. I myself have written a few rather long opinion pieces in the past. A few were perhaps a bit more bloggish than they should have been. But they've generally been on topics relevant to recent news that just came out. But, again they weren't about ME, per se (maybe my opinion on things, but nothing personal about me). I don't think this is the place to bare one's soul or atone for sins, necessarily.
"Would this qualify to show up on the 6:00 news?" (While maybe that shouldn't be the gold standard of whether or not to post, it seems relevant enough. At the moment, I tend to think that one should ask oneself, "Would this story be out of place if the AP picked up the story and it ran on all the news networks at dinner time?")
But, again, am *I* newsworthy? Not being a celebrity of any repute (ill or otherwise), I'd say no. So, where do we draw the line between self-promotion / aggrandizement and genuine news content?
Anyway, I guess this turned into more of a philosophical rant than I'd intended. Maybe this is the wrong spot for me to be asking these questions... I don't know. Just thinking out loud. No offense intended, have nothing against you, personally.

Thanks for this look at some of your previous experience on social networking sites, I am just wondering why you decided to share this with us now and what was the motivation to do that.
Thanks

Good question.
To show that honesty is the best policy.
All so to highlight that if you break the rules on any web base community it is not the same if you open up a new account under a new name to continue a hobby one loves. You lose your identity and its hard to refer back to articles that you have spent researching to show that you are very versed in the subject matter at hand.
It also shows that one should not act like a spoiled child and a troll when your annoyed.
Then to confirm to friends that I am an advocate of real citizen journalism and that I have always felt that operating on a site that pays though it be meager earnings means freelance journalism. That there is only one site in my opinion that allows me to keep my head up high and truthfully state that I am a real citizen journalist. That of course is here on this community site. Yep I found my home.
Its not a case of sour grapes as I could of kept up the deception if I had not come out in the open I knew the administration of newsvine had no other option other than to ban me.

I have never had a problem with Tyler but sorry you did, sandie nice to see you here and thanks. Your a good friend.
at 23:55 on May 17th, 2009
yep, but interest and personal experiences are all part of citizen journalism. Okay the article is centered on the me and an experience. Its of course not 6 o'clock news material, never intended to be if it had of been I would of added the doom and gloom, lol.
Yep, as an administrator you have the problem of deciding what you think is new as you see the guides of nowpublic. It's not a job I would like as my biases would be a hindrance. Keeping a center point would be my principles if I was in your shoes, however I would forever be biting my tongue.
Thanks for thinking aloud your point is well taken and your devils advocate opinion and view is respected. The statement "No offense intended, have nothing against you, personally" was not needed as that should be the byline of everybody that gives good debate or writes articles, a good administrator should have that approach to all they administrate. .
Yep, but there are a load of citizen journalist that have a problem of obey rules, my own experience was thought to be of interest to those that walk or are walking a similar path. I certainly do not want to be a celebrate, nor wish to be any form of top dog. I am sorry that you gained that non fact from my article.

Yes, concur here. You're different under jesuitshot. Missed the Babel.
As I wrote in your finale post, you've made fine contributions that should have served to allow you back. I say it's Newsvine's post, although we both understand that management had no choice but enforce the ban when you came out of the closet.
At least you were honest, though. I'll keep in touch, English friend.
Warm regards,
Jesusa

Yep I knew they would ban me, sort of self destruct. The problem of using a different screen names is you have to take care in referring to past articles etc., its just not the same.
Its nice to see your kind comment Jesusa you have always been a good friend and someone that is exelent in debate on Philippine issues and many many other subjects.
Of course we will keep in touch we share interests in the things we love especially in the Philippines.
Warm regards
