IBM has laid off an undisclosed number of workers, but had made no public announcement about it. These layoffs will affect American and Canadian workers.

These stealth-mode layoffs will add to over 2,800 previously-cut jobs.

In its disclosure to CNET, IBM's media relations guy didn't blame the layoffs on the weak economy, but attributed them to a pre-planned restructuring of the company.

IBM has not made any formal announcements yet, but IBM Director of Corporate Media Relations Doug Shelton confirmed to CNET News on Saturday that some employees were notified on January 21 that their jobs were being cut. The company would not say how many people had been laid off or in what facilities or departments those cuts were made.
