Immigrants Helped Sweden Double Export and Import in 5 Years
A study shows increased immigration has helped Sweden boosting foreign trade. For an increase of about 12,000 people, $1 billion of export is generated.
The study looked at the data from 2002 to 2007. About 200,000 people immigrated to Sweden, and the total value of Swedish imports and exports nearly doubled in 5 years.
A 10% increase in the number of immigrants from a specific country increase exports to that country by 6%.
According to economist Andreas Hatzigergiou, who carried out the study, there is a connection between trade and immigration.
According to Hatzigeorgiou, immigrants contribute to increased foreign trade by offering specialized knowledge, cultural competence, and contacts to Swedish businesses looking to export to new markets.
“[Immigrant entrepreneurs] are well-equipped to do business in their former homelands and can also serve as guides to Swedish companies who want to establish themselves abroad,” he said.
As of 2008, 17.9% of the population had foreign origins. Immigrants account for around 20% of new companies formed in Sweden.

Nice story, though comments from Swedes in this story's comment section seem to belie this story!
Certainly who ever wrote the story neglected to mention all the others who come into Sweden and stir an already dissatisfied melting pot
