Scott Wu, thanks for getting this story out so quickly. It will now show up on the home page for four hours. If new developments justify it, I'll renew this flag for another cycle.

Apple announced it's much anticipated tablet device: iPad.
Just minutes ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the new Apple tablet device in the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. As of now, Steve Jobs is taking the audience though the features on iPad.
iPad essentially looks like a large size iPhone. Engaget and Gizmodo are covering the announcement through liveblogging. Unfortunately, there is no live steaming for the Apple iPad announcement.
Specifications for iPad (what we now know):
iPad is 0.5 inches thin, weigh only 1.5 pounds, has a 9.7 inch IPS display, full capacitive multi-touch. It runs on 1 GHz Apple A4 chip, with 16 to 64 GB of flash storage. It uses 802.11n for WiFi internet connection, and has Bluetooth 2.1 (plus EDR).
Steve Jobs said they've been able to achieve 10 hours of battery life, and can standby for over a month.
iPad has 3D gaming capabilities. You can play first person shooter or driving simulation games on iPad.
One of the many exciting apps is iBooks. It is Apple's ebook reader that uses ePub format. The virtual bookstore looks similar to iTunes.
According to Mac Rumors, the iPad could go on sale on March 1st, priced at $500-$600 with contract and $999 without. We will soon find out if the rumor is true or not.
UPDATE: iPad pricing starts at $499.
The iPad WiFi models will be shipped in 60 days, and WiFi 3G models will be shipped in 90 days.
The official iPad page is up in Apple's website: Apple's iPad Tablet

It is a good product even a great one, however, it does lack storage space and could use a lot more GB to be used for Engineering application and auto-cat.

the iPad isn't designed for that, you will still need a macBook or desktop. Apple is very clever to add to their range and not make replacements........iPhone----->iPad------->macBook------->iMac------>

I realise that J2B, for such limited application it is simply to expensive and e-books or news paper are still to limited in languish choices and varieties to make it worth wile.
I can not get Heinrich Bardt as an e-book nor any African authors or work specific books other then some US authors. Nor can I get Le Sahel or other news media for this sort of application as of now.
One spends $500.00 to $1,000.00 plus has to pay for the New-York Times to be able to read it and buy books. I am sorry, can do that with a lab-top that I can also use for work and design.

Paschen, you have my full agreement on what you state. I don't have an iPhone and I won't be getting an iPad. Both of these need apps rather than an installed OS & software. Apple will make a fortune from selling apps. I guess when it does arrive, Softbank will be the seller.
